Yes. I douche and I have the Mirena IUD (despite what the above post says). Each women has their own reason for Douching. Good Luck.

The only concern would be that chemicals travel up your vagina into your uterus via the IUD string that hangs in your vagina. However the IUD is implanted in your uterus.
Good Luck.

HI I am in the same boat as you I am 21 years, and been on the IUD for and about 2 months and the nurse told me that I would have a heavier period and stronger cramps, this is when the first time she insert its and its going to be a long time before your body gets use to the IUD, it doesn't know what this device is and going to take sometime to get use to it, if you can feel the string and its in place then you should be fine. Yes its normal for your periods to be heavier that is one of the symptoms of the IUD, and the string should be in place and if you feel uncomfortable with the IUD or van feel it after it heals you might want to consult your doctor.Since I had not had a period in 3 years due to the depo shot, she recommend me not to douche when I am on the IUD copper, because it might affect my body in some way or get a allergic reaction. I would suggest either call your doctor or OBGYN and ask questions or make an appointment for a visit. I have heavier periods since I am on this paraguard IUD, its just trying to get use to the new birth control, I been through this already and my body is trying to get adjusted to the IUD and get rid of the depo shot.

Is douching safe?
Most doctors and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) suggest that women steer clear of douching. All healthy vaginas contain some bacteria and other organisms called the vaginal flora. The normal acidity of the vagina keeps the amount of bacteria down. But douching can change this delicate balance. This may make a woman more prone to vaginal infections. Plus, douching can spread existing vaginal infections up into the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

I wouldn't douche at all. It can cause infections, and make things alot worse then they are. Ask your obgyn about this, they can give you more information and an answer.

Only your ob/gyn can advise you on this.
By the way, my ob/gyn advises against this practice, and gives no reason as to why. He just says it does more harm than good.
GOD bless us one and all, always.
