cable modem will not connect to anything that is ADSL. They are 2 completley different types of connection.

if you are on the cable network, get a wirless cable router - plug the modem into that,

if you are on the adsl (bt network) you need adsl equipment only

You may be able to use the BT wireless modem as a wireless access point, if you have another router.

If the BT wireless modem is also a switch - does it have more than one LAN socket?

Cable modem - Wan socket on router then LAN socket on router to - LAN socket on wireless modem.

Turn dhcp server off on the wireless modem.

Here you use the router as a router and the wireless modem as a switch or wireless gateway.

Worth a try, but no guarantees.

However, the best option is to go and buy a wireless router to connect to your cable modem.

No you cant, if you want to go wireless you need a router. Have a look at ntl's home page and on there look under their shop and you will see a good deal for routers
