Yes, I oppose it as well. The reason I think is because public support and using public funds requires public action. And then there is the "slippery slope" that started with contraception, then abortion, then manipulations like "in vitro", cloning and anything involving destruction of embryos. So in that sense, stopping at abortion aids in stopping other unethical practices. You must also realize, there is expertise involved in understanding the process. So scientists and church leaders have a particular obligation to protest. And my church leaders like bishops do protest the practices you mentioned. It would be nice to hear more though. But you won't see the information in the news very much which keeps consciences uninformed. And who is going to protest if they think of it as a way to have babies and save lives. It sounds positive. Hope that helps.

India making strides in stem cell research

India is formulating plans for a national stem cell initiative to boost clinical applications of stem cell research, develop linkages between publicly and privately-funded research groups, enable sharing of facilities, ideas, and research and business opportunities, promote interactions between researchers and clinicians and prioritize areas for research funding. The proposal, being drafted by the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Department of Biotechnology, includes creating a fund to boost stem cell research.

More than 15 labs in the country are engaged in stem cell research, focusing mostly on clinical applications of stem cells in ophthalmology, cardiology and spinal cord repair. Indian researchers have pioneered a stem cell injection for reviving heart muscles and are now planning to use stem cells derived from bone marrow to treat chronic liver failure and to regenerate tissue to treat heart disease, traumatic brain injury and Crohn's disease. Indian doctors have also successfully treated blindness using stem cells derived from the eye.
