How is that possible, unless your cell phone is powered by fire

yes, I've seen 2 films of it happening - Gas vapors escape out the filler hole as gas goes into the tank , if you are standing in the vapor cloud and your cell rings the electrical discharges in the phone can ignite the vapor which is highly explosive as it comes out and gets mixed with air. Its not actually an explosion but it will flash and thats just as dangerous.

It can't actually cause an explosion. I had this discussion with my Chemistry Professor.

It's possible yes, best not to take chances, also you are most definitely NOT suppose to smoke while pumping and or near them,but that's just common sense now isn't it. :-)
