When I am running I sometimes get a stitch in the lower left side of the abdomen. We all say its a stitch but what is it, What is happening inside and why does it happen. I know if I breathe more deeply sometimes it subsides or you can just run through it.

A stitch is a sharp pain felt in your side just under your ribs. It is commonly felt while running. It can be painful and cause you to stop exercising. Although it is not clear what is the cause of a stitch, it is thought that these pains in the side are a result of inadequate oxygen delivery to the muscles that are involved in breathing - the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles (between the ribs).

Some people try and 'run trough' the pain, hoping it will go away after a time which it sometimes does. Breathing through pursed lips is recommended to ease the pain, but stopping your exercise activity is sometimes the only solution. The pain usually recedes after a time, and there should be no permanent damage done.

lots of circumstances. some stitches are made up of a fabric that dissolved after some days, so the stitches do not would desire to be bumped off. I had a motorbike accident some years in the past and that i've got been given a huge decrease on my face (I landed on my chin). They delivered in a plastic well being practitioner to close the wound to decrease the scarring. He shot novocaine all over the wound and commenced sewing it up. Then he informed me he had to place one stitch in exterior the 'blocked' (anesthetized section) and could that be ok or did i choose greater novocaine? I informed him to purely bypass forward (i could already been via plenty). So i in my opinion felt the needle and thread dealing with my epidermis. It wasn't as undesirable as I predicted.

Read this thread at Runners World... You'd be better off posting running related queries there are there is more knowledge in the room.

Have a banana before you run - it may be you're low of potassium. You may set off too quickly. If you can breath out hard and it goes its your diaphragm.

I was always told that it was a primary form of heat cramps. This occurs when your electrolite balance in your body is a little off and your abd or ribs get crampy on one side. This can occur there or in any major muscle system like your calf or hamstrings.

It's a muscular spasm caused by oxygen shortage, deep breathing will get more oxygen circulating and relieve it.
