If love is not returned, why would admiration be there?- I would think maybe resentment or acceptance- can't turn love into something that isn't there.

Love is a verb. It's something you do and give to someone else. They don't have to give it back for it to "be". It simply is. Just as pie is pie, whether you're actually eating yourself or someone is eating it for you. It's all good!
