-Kino no Tabi
Yes, the art style may seem childish but its "recommanded for thinkiers". It's light-hearted even when it was about the bad and good parts of people, and I really like it.

-Mermaid Forest
Short series of stories. Tense, strange, all with a twist. Same creator as Inuyasha.

-Excel Saga
Better humor if you understand Japan culture more, but I can't imagine anime fans ever hating this.

-Welcome to NHK!
Drama, best if you have an understanding of Otaku-culture. Funny, depression(although sometimes over the edge), but brutally honest about the Hikikomori lifestyle of Japan.

-Ouran High School Host Club.
Moe, otaku, yaoi fangirls humor, but also not unthought-ful. Romance-comedy.

-FLCL
A love it or hate it Sci-fi series.

-Black Cat
Action oriented with sci-fi elements. It's hard to get to in the beginning but gains like-ablity later on. It's a very energetic series. Gun fights, sword fights, lots of action fan-service while still allowing character development.

-Elfen Lied
A sci-fi tradegy that has nothing to do with elves. Alot of nudity and blood. For the sake of everything, it's not hentai even with sexual jokes and cousin-to-cousin incest.
