Hello there.
PLEASE, please do NOT listen to all the answers that you are going to get telling you to put baby cereal in her bottle! This is NEVER a good idea and in fact will NOT make her sleep longer. You did not say how old your baby is but if she is younger than 5 or 6 months it is actually harmful to introduce solids to a baby that young. Her (his) immature digestive system is not capable of handling that type of food yet.
If you are breastfeeding just put the baby in bed with you and you can both sleep all night. All you have to do is remember to change sides every now and then. That is the biggest plus to nursing your baby, you can both get all the sleep you want. Of course if you are bottle feeding this is not an option.
I am afraid that other than making sure that your baby is fed and dry when you put her to bed at night she is still going to need that 2 a.m. feeding until she is ready to give it up. I had 5 babies and they all started sleeping through the night at different times. It is different for each baby.
Again, you did not say how old your baby is so it is difficult for me to give you any specific options that might help him to sleep longer at night.
Feel free to write to me if you would like and I can help you with some ideas that would be appropriate for the age of your baby.
Again, I know you will get lots of answers telling you to put cereal in the baby's bottle. Please resist the urge to do that. If you do not believe me, ask your doctor. She will tell you that it is a bad idea and that it will not help. Again this depends on how old your baby is. If he or she is 6 months old the advice might be different.
Take care and congratualtions on the birth of your baby!
Blessings
Lady Trinity~

If he's still a newborn, it's very normal for him to wake up every 2 hours. Newborns just aren't designed to go for very long without food and physical affection. It's rough, but you just have to get through it.
Gradually he will start sleeping longer, most likely. If he's 4 months old and still waking up a lot, cross that bridge when you come to it.
I would NOT advise letting him "cry it out." A newborn baby's wants are the same as his needs. If he cries, he NEEDS something. Maybe it's food, or maybe it's just the reassurance of your touch. You won't spoil him by responding to his needs -- you will help him to grow more secure.
Hang it there. When you look back on these days, it will seem like such a short period of time.

It is quite normal for babies to wake up frequently during the night. Sometimes feeding them right before you go to bed helps, like "topping off" their tank, so to speak. Some who breastfeed introduce formula at night because it's digested more slowly and the baby won't wake up hungry as often (although this doesn't always make a difference). I think it depends on the age and weight of the child.
With both of my children, I've noticed that their sleeping habits change when they reach a new milestone. For DD right now we are going through middle of the night wakings complete with blowing raspberries and cooing like it is 2 p.m., not 2 a.m. It's frustrating but she just learned how to roll over and wants to be on her tummy, although she gets frustrated once she is. My son did the same thing as an infant.
Keeping them awake during the day might work, but it could also make them overtired, which makes it harder for them to fall asleep.

Try no to let your baby nap a lot during the day. If they nap keep it to a minimum. This will cause your baby to become more tired and may help with sleeping longer at night, but you must know your baby and its habits. Such as will they be grouchier during the day with fewer naps? Take into consideration things of this nature and figure out what works best . Hope it helps.

I'm trying to find out the same thing. People have told me to keep my baby awake during the day, so he will want to sleep more at night. Maybe try that, good luck!

This depends on how old your baby is.
sometime between 3-6 months babies are able to go through the whole night without waking up to eat. but they still continue to wake up because they haven't learned how to soothe themselves back to sleep. if your baby is over three months old then try to get him/her back to sleep without feeding him. hold their hand, rub them, but don't pick them up.
keeping them awake all day won't help. babies know how much sleep they need, so don't wake a sleeping baby unless the pediatrician says to. like if it is a newborn who needs to eat every 2.5 hours. or some other reason like that.
giving then cereal in their milk before bed doesn't help either. this is an old wives tale. they have to learn how to soothe themselves back to sleep before they will sleep through the night.

How old is your baby? He/she may not be full when time for bed. If your baby is old enough to have a bit of pablum then give hiim/her some. A full tummy means a good night sleep!

Well if he takes naps then don't let him sleep later than 4 or 5. Then try everything possible to keep him up until its bedtime. By then hopfully he'll be tired enough to fall asleep. Hope I was some help!
