Politically, there is no reason to have a Queen, but your math is awry; the extra money brought into Britain by foreign tourists attracted by the "pomp & majesty" of the monarchy far outstrips any cost they have to the British taxpayer. You could abolish the monarchy tomorrow as long as you'd be happy to take a pay cut!
The actual cost of the monarchy is about 61p per citizen, (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/28062006/323/queen-kin-cost-britons-62p.html), and the estimated tourist revenue the Royals attract to Britain is estimated at $9.84 billion, or about two quid per British citizen.
So if you'd like a pay cut, keep whining!

The monarchy has always been an essential part of British history and tradition therefore the reigning monarch still has significance. Despite having the "Divine Right of Kings" of absolute rule taken away, the monarch still serves a purpose as a unifying symbol of all that is British despite the nation's continuing advance to 21st century postmodernism. The monarch and her family do not just sit on their royal thrones smiling and showing off blings here and there; they participate in charities and influence the sentiments of the British masses for the general interest of all. For example, the royal princes William and Harry aided in packing materials to be sent as relief goods for Tsunami victims the other year. The Princes of Wales has held many charities under his name and is active in going overseas to promote humanitarian causes. I believe there's nothing wrong about keeping a constitutional monarchy around. In fact, the sole interest of the public in the country's monarchy has contributed a lot to the country's revenue from tourism! In my opinion, the monarchy resembles an image of class as compared to the cliche icon of a pompous politician giving V signs here and there as he gives empty promises in front of an ocean of cameras and news reporters.
Monarchy, despite its being traditional and old fashioned in this age of modernism, has lost its full power but still plays a good role for its people. Kings and queens remind the people of their glorious past and symbolize national identity and unity whilst also providing aid for the welfare of its people.

dude, i'm with you on the idea that they are a drain on the commonwealth. i mean when you think about it, they ride horses, drive posh rolls royce, and all that comes from the taxes( steep i must say) that us"commoners" have to pay.i mean she has a beautiful family, but what about the people that belong to her commonwealth?why should we live in virtual poverty so that they can attend fancy colleges and join the army? why do they need such big mansions when no more than 2 or 3 of the royal family live in it, while there are families of 7 or 8 that live in 3 bedroom houses??? so much for human rights?!?
and to you my friend, who says that she is an important figure in society, and that england will surely fall apart, who says? the royal family is just that," figureheads", and nothing more.

She serves the same purpose as the President of Ireland and the Usa. She is a reprisentative more so than the prime minister, and has final say over the law and the defence forces.

Some might say she is a symbol of democracy. Without royalty many governments are subject to tyranny and despots.
It also is a source of revenue for Britain, in that is promotes tourism.
But it is not immune to scandal, as we have seen... I don't think any system is perfect

She does not sit on her *** you jerk.
I am not British but I am a fan of all European Aristrocratis. The queen does a lot of things. Sit's on a lot of charitable organizations. You ought to read the buckingham palaces website. Than you would be better informed. If she ever dies Great Britain will be in poor shape.

There is no point whatsover....shes only there for show...the point of royalty is shwing off ie VANITY: she proudly displays her sparkly crown not knowing what sort of sacrifices have gone to make that crown: the precious Kohinoor diamond she stole from India...the blood diamonds from Africa.....
She should be arrested, the b l o o dy thief...or live like most of the pensioners (God bless them) do in England: in a uncomfortably heated one bedroom flat. She should have some sympathy for the poor and elderly and help...She disgusts me

It is simply another method in the propaganda of capitalism - people see the royal family when they are too young to question its and so are brought up to believe that some people deserve more privilages merely based apon which family tehy are born into, to keep the powers that be in power.

I don't understand why you had to ask this question, when you could have just searched this question as it has been asked many time before..
Stop wasting webspace, and do a search before asking a question!
Ah well, that's two points.
