No. The only way to play a Gamecube game on your wii is with a Cube controller, and the only way to save is with a Cube memory card. Trust me, I tried playing Resi 4 with my Wii controller. Didn't work at all...

What you need is a VC (virtual console) controller, the ones which are used for the VC games. It plugs in the top, a game cube one will work too but the new one would be better if you where planning to buy some VC games. You can only use the wii remote as a normal controller with some VC games

You cannot use any of the Wii's controllers to play GC games. You cannot use the GC controller to play Wii games. You can use GC controllers to play GC games on the Wii. It is best to play GC games on the Wii using Wavebird controllers.

You can save only Wii games to the Wii. GC games must be saved onto a GC memory card.

I oftenly play GC games on my Wii using Wavebirds, so its more fun like the Wii.

No, you need a GC controller to play GC games. The GC games are not compatible with the motion sensing of the Wii controllers.

On the back of your wii there is a slot. Open it to find 4 GC controller ports and 2 memory card slots. The fact that they're even there answers your question.
