DON"T epoxy the knob on!! if you do it won't come off again! take the model# and get on the phone and call an appliance parts store, sears parts, or an on line site. also, you don't say what the brand is, but, most timers are meant to turn only clockwise! check your owners manual to be sure that your washer's timer is supposed to turn both or counter-clockwise. just because it can, doesn't mean you should. if the parts store doesn't have the knob in stock, it should only take a week or so to get a new one. good luck.

probably a dozen ways. my best guess without actually seeing it, is to get some of that epoxy putty. Auto parts stores usually sell it, you knead it like clay to activate it.

first drill out the back of the knob a bit, and take a blade of some sort and score the inside of the hole, so the putty can get some grip. Make sure the thing is clean, too. Knead up a dab of the putty, put it in the hole on the knob, leave just a little space available. push it onto the dishwasher making sure to just push it strait on, in the proper position. let it set up overnight. it should work, for a while anyway. eventually you will simply have to find a new knob that fits. some appliance parts places will have a generic one that will work.

If the knob is stripped, you will have to order a new one. I had to do this a couple of months ago. Just google parts for the make and model of your washer and go from there. It costs less than $10 total.
