Nevermind us never being attacked yet. (There is no evidence that terrorists have even attempted to attack us again anyway).
But the point is, there have been terrorist attacks in other countries since the war started. (Remember, for example, the 2005 London subway bombings?)
In Iraq, sectarian violence runs rampant. When our forces take one step forward, it's not 2 but rather 5 or so steps back.
I know I am being pessimistic, but I am also being a realist. Republicans who are optomistic about the war obviously have no idea how poor the conditions are.
The recruitment drive for Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, suicide and non-suicide bombers for the Shia and Sunnis, have risen to a phenomenal level.
It's sad to say, but we and our allies have no handle on what is going on anymore. Even if you don't want to label it as a civil war, it sure as hell might as well be one.
Mr. Bush, truth be told, has no clue what to do anymore.
Surges failed in the past. He is merely hoping for the best.

The worst thing to do is to pull out, without having a stable government in force. What that will show is that the USA is weak and we will continue to have terrorist attacks.

Do you want that for you and your family ? I don't know how close you live to NYC but we are only about 300 miles away. The further they can keep the terrorist the better off I feel.....and yes I do have a brother in the service.

His view is that we should stay there for now or the lives that have been lost would have been for nothing.

As has been evidenced by their answers, they don't care about the truth.

They seem to enjoy making things up about the world, its history, politics, Clinton, Carter, the economy, etc. Why I'm sure you'll see several of their myths posing as legitimate answers here.

They like to take small points that seem to illustrate their position while ignoring the bulk of the evidence that is contrary to their position - especially if they like Bush.

They tend to be narrow minded faux christians, who don't understand much of their own religion or country.

a lot of people have their heads in the sand over this one. i guess some really actually believe that if you say anything realistic you are comforting the enemy, as though those fighting the US forces in Iraq are somehow affected by a discussion of what's happening.

Bush is clueless. Baker went over there produced a report and now Bush is sending 20,000 more troops? it doesn't make any sense.
