I've been doing some job hunting and went to a workshop on it. 62% of jobs gotten are those found by networking. Cold calling, mailing resumes on the internet, want ads and the like only rated 10-16%.

Hi, well i an not employed but nearly all of my rlatives have got a job because they new someone. But of course they wont put in a good word for me. Her goes
Ages a go my auntie got my mum a job when she was younger,
Then when my mum Left My auntie got her son and daugther a job in the factory.
Then my brother got a job ages a go at macdonalds when his mates worked there and at a secrity company her used to work for and a job he has got now.
Everyone in my street that works at ASDA are all related either mother or daugther etc.
My cousin gets her daughter a job every where she works and a lass has to jobs one because her mum got her it and another job in a different shop in the town.
Another lass i went to school with works at morrisons and now her sister has a job there too.
So you can say a few times that i know of a person who got the job because they new someone. I think its highly unfair as you know straight away when you go for an interview nearly all the time the job has been taken they just have to interview so many by law. This is why half of us cant get jobs, its easy money for them, check this out a girl i knew from school, straight after she left school her mum got her a job a ASDA. She was sorted from then off no interveiw or nothing. I suppose this is the way it is for most companys.

I have gotten every single job by 'knowing someone'. For customer service type jobs I was already a customer so I had established a rapport with the managers. For my marketing job I went to a temp agency and they placed me there one day as a receptionist, the hiring company was happy with my work and offered me the marketing job. For my administrative job, I knew the recruiter that posted the job online.
It was never quick, but knowing people honestly helps. And the funny thing is,you never know who you are going to ask for help or a good referal!!

This may count as "knowing someone" in order to get a job. I was an associate at a temp agency. I found out about the job at corporate through theh branch manager I worked out of as a temp. She talked to the corporate recruiter and got me an interview and a few weeks later, I was working there.
Networking is very helpful.
I work in Billing.

After graduating I got a temping job at an investment bank, I spent six months proving myself and making contacts. When the contract I was on,was coming to an end, one of the directors found me a permanent job elsewhere in the bank. So I guess it does help when you make the "connections". However I would like to add, I had to work hard to proof my self to them.

I got my interview because I knew someone who worked at my place but I got the job myself by having a successful interview. I am a carer in a nursing home.

I think about 3 times I've gotten a job because I knew someone who worked where I was applying.
The first one was at the airport. My dad convinced a friend of his to hire me. I was hired after a very very short interview.
The second time was when I applied at Lowe's. A friend of mine worked there and told the HR lady to hire me.
The third time just recently happened. A friend of mine talked to one of her friends and told him to hire me.
