When we wash clothes, there is water all over the floor. I initially thought it was the wash machine but the technician said it was not the machine, it's the drain on the floor getting backed up. So I went and bought a bottle of drain unclogger. My question is, should I pour it into the pipe where the hose coming from the wash machine is going into, or should I pour it directly into the drain on the floor?

your main sewer line could be clogged.Try flushing your toilets and running water elsewhere in the house to see if it backs up in your floor drain. If it does, then you will need your main sewer line snaked. If it only backs up from your washing machine emptying, then it is just the drain line to the main from the floor drain. That could also be a job for a small motorized snake to clear out lint buildup in the pipe. you can try the drain cleaner, but they are usually not that effective. If you do, pour it into the floor drain since the clog is after or beyond that point.Good luck.

I had this problem about 2 years ago and you better pray it's not the problem I had. First, find your main drain in the house, it should be near your hot water heater. Get a flash light to see if its clogged, this line goes out to the sewer. Use professional strength drain cleaner (go to lowes or home depot). After you flush it, check it again and make sure that the water is flowing out of the house. You also want to check your sewer port outside. Its usually a white, maybe 6" piece of PVC that comes out the ground. Take the top off and look down the pipe to make sure its not backed up. If it's backed up here, you will need to have a plumber snake your line. While they are out there, have them run a camera down there too. This way they can see what's blocking your pipe.

I had to get my entire back yard dug up to have my sewer pipe repaired and it was about a $10,000 job. My problem started with the same symptoms. I hope it's not as serious.

into the floor drain. NOT into the hose pipe, if you do the drain cleaner will just overflow on to the floor and be wasted
