I know this is often the determining factor. I wanted to get an idea though - of how many people out there. Please let me know what type of job you got also.

I got a job in communications management because I knew someone. This is not to say that I haven't had jobs in the past that I got solely by applying through my own merits, but those have definitely been fewer and far between than the ones that I got through connections.

To be honest, every single one of my friends is currently employed because they knew someone, and this is in a variety of jobs and sectors: marketing, software development, banking, etc.

That's just the way things are these days. Networking is everything.

I got the job I had now because I had previously worked at the company, and quite a few people knew me. When the manager of the group decided to move on to something else, they gave me a call. The job is manager of a group of software engineers. I

I think, except for my first job out of college, every job I've had has happened because I "knew someone".

My 25 year old sister was instantly given the position as manager of a national retail store because she previously worked with one of the higher-ups of the company. (this was approx. 2 years ago)

My last 4 jobs have all been because I know someone. I am in Finance/Insurance/Accounting
