I know that I want to own my own clothing store when I am done with college, hopefully more than one assuming that I am successful. I am not sure what major to choose with this as my goal. I was thinking business, would that be best? Or is there something else I should consider?

some side notes: I work for a woman who owns two clothing stores right now so I am getting hands on experience that way by helping her and also am helping with the buying and already know all about merchandising so I don't want to go to a fashion or specialty school. And also, the counselors at my junior college I am attending right now aren't super helpful so that is why I am asking here. Thank you!!!

It sounds like you have the merchandising part down, but I would encourage you to major in Business Administration. Business Administration gives a very good overview of all aspects of running a business, from finance to management and on to marketing. I earned by bachelor's degree in business administration 12 years ago and I don't think I could have chosen a better major. My education gave me a lot of wonderful tools to use for not only my career but also dealing with people in general. In almost any kind of job you will always need basic business skills...especially management skills...management and dealing with people. On a side note, if you have the opportunity to go to a wholesale market to buy merchandise with your boss, definitely take her up on it. This will teach you a lot about the buying end of business. GOOD LUCK and I wish you lots of prosperity!

Yeah they have marketing and all of these nice things that can help you work at some company. What you really need is to know how to start your company where to get money. Where and what papers to file. You should study Entrepreneurship.

You are right. If you already know fashion, you need to learn business.
