Guantanamo is another American occupation from the war of the Bay of Pigs John F. Kennedy protected America from during his Administration. A real terror threat that the Neocons wont ever discuss repelled by a Democrat. The Cubans had received nuclear weapons on the island from the Soviets. John F. Kennedy had them dismantled and removed, thus America kept Guantanamo and the Bay of Pigs as a Navel installation to this date.

The Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Cuba, is actually a land lease from the Government of Cuba. The U.S. Navy has been sending checks to Cuba for decades. This agreement was made after the Spanish American war with the newly formed Government of Cuba. Since Cuba's revolution the U.S. Navy has still sent checks to the Government but Cuba has refused to cash the checks. The reason there is a detainment camp in Cuba is that the land on which the base is located is still considered sovereign Cuban soil. This essentially means that the rights of U.S. citizens are not guaranteed. The detainees are being treated humanely and in the spirit of the Geneva convention, while not covered by the articles of the Geneva convention.

Guantanamo bay was won by us during the Spanish/American war along with all of Cuba then we let Cuba have their independence which eventually fell to Castro. All except Guantanamo Bay which we kept. This makes the bay a military base and the law is very grey which gives the white house plenty of wiggle room to pull their B.S.

Guantanamo is US territory via treaty. Cuba has no control over it. IF you think the prisoners there are being mistreated you should see how the militant muslims treat their prisoners, innocent people guilty only of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Want to see what happens to innocent people in the hands of our enemies go to his site

and scroll down down til you find the video of the be-headings of Korean Hostage, Johnson, Berg and Armstrong. Then complain about the treatment of those held in Guantanamo.

First, it's our base, not Cuba's. Being an island, there is nowhere to escape, and I could be wrong, but escaping into Cuba might not be welcomed by the Cubans either.

Because if it was located in the US then the prisoners there would have rights - and we certainly can't have them given charges and sent for trial can we?

We shouldn't have a prison camp in Cuba. We should, instead, summarily execute the combatants we capture.
