So i me my Korean suitemate last night and she's really nice but i think i misunderstood her when you told me her age. She said that she was 21 in the United states but 22 in Korea. Can some one explain this to me?? Or did i just nisunderstand her?

She is entirely correct: In Korea, newborns are officially 1 year old, and "gain" one year not on their birthday but on New Year's Day (surprisingly, the Gregorian one — "our" New Year's — and not an Asian calendar). Birthdays are still celebrated too. (This is a common way of reckoning age in Asia in general, but Korea is the only country where it is "official".)

The first answer sounds right, but I think the fact that they use the lunar calendar also has something to do with it.

probably because like on new years it turns the new year in Australia and other countries hours before here so in her country she may already have reached her b/day,I guess.

you didn't misunderstand in her country they believe life starts at conception we believe that it starts at birth
