Get a set of rules from the parents, first of all. A physical set of rules, written down on paper, taped to the refridgerator or something. That ensures that there's no lying or twisting of the rules. I used to try that all the time, and it's better for everyone if you just lay down the law.
That being said, try and have fun with them. Depending on how long you have to be there, and how old they are, there's a lot of things you can do.
What I did when I babysat was if it was my first time, I'd ask them what they wanted to do and follow their lead. For example, there was one kid who just liked to draw. So I sat across the table from him and we drew superheroes. He didn't die, lose any limbs, or suffer permanent brain damage, so it was all cool and I got paid. Playing board games is good, and watching a movie is good. Ask them what move they'd like to watch, and make them a snack at some point.

I take it you are new to babysitting. How old are the kids? You realize you have to play with them and feed them, don't you? If it's nighttime, you get to put them to bed and that should be it. Rules from a mom who hires babysitters: Don't eat everything in the fridge. Either ask or the parent will tell you what you can snack on. And don't tie up my phone! I might be trying to call you. Also, don't hang out on your cell. Do homework or read a book so you can listen for the kids.

I would give these kids a chance before you assume they are little terrors. Maybe your bff just didn't have very good babysitting skills. Her patience and ability to tolerate things may be different than yours.
I would go into the situation with an open mind. If they turn out to be too difficult for you to watch just quit doing it...

You are not your bff, so the kids might be different with you. I hope you are more patient and understanding with these kids than you are with that little girl you don't want to babysit. So go into the situation as if you don't know anything about them. That should help you ease in to it.

How old are they?
Well, if they're 3-4 try playing learning games with them
5-7, bring out simple board games like snakes and ladders and Uno.
8-10, play outdoors with them like play soccer or basketball
11+ talk about things and bring over good movies and yummy snacks.
( I kinda threw in boys and girls activities, if its a girl just be cool and act like an older sister or a good friend and play truth or dare and stuff, if its a boy, play sports and video games.)
Hope I helped!

You have to be the responsible one so you let them know that you will be going by the rules and if they act up on your watch you will tell their parents and you will not be able to baby sit any more.

just depends on their ages. some kids take to different people differently so you never know. they may wind up loving you. take games and come up with ideas on what to do while you are with them. don't let them just play by themselves, interact with them and show them how much you want to be around them. good luck, have fun, and never lose your patience with them.
