I am 16 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my third, and i just absolutely cringe whenever I hear or read the word prego. Do any of you have any words or phrases that just rub you the wrong way?

Wow....Just had to say that I agree with "all of the above".....I do suppose that "knocked up" is my least favorite expression but at least you do not hear women refering to themselves that way. But, some expectant mothers will actually call themselves "preggers" or "prego" and I totally agree that it is repulsive! So much so that I can hardly make myself answer their question, even if it is an important one! I am so turned off by their ugly use of that expression, to refer to such an awesome, joyous condition that I just want to smack them! Or at least start out the answer by telling them how despicable that terminology is!
All of the tems discussed show such little respect for women and for being pregnant! And when a woman does it herself it is really awful!
Back in my day we called it "in the family way" and I guess maybe that was not so bad after all!

I don't like Prego, either. It's a pasta sauce, which I could do without (it gives me heartburn). What's worse, is my husband has started calling me Pingu, because I almost walk like the penguin from that cartoon on PBS Kids Sprout. When I was pregnant with my son, my uncle would say "quack quack" almost every time I walked by him.

When i see people type in that they are "Prego" i think of that spaghetti sauce. Do you wanna know what i call being pregnant?
Swelled up......That sounds better than prego and knocked up.

i do agree about being called prego. i think of the spaghetti sauce. but i dont mind too much of the other names. my dad calls me chubs...and that doesnt bother me because im skinny other than my big old belly. it just depends on the person who is doing the calling and the person who is called the name.
and ps...i do refer to myself as knocked up. i just think its kinda funny. depends on if you can take a joke or not...

Yeah, I'm with you. Prego is a pasta sauce, not a term to describe expectant mothers. "Preggers" sounds equally goofy.

yes, prego, I hate it too. I also hate when people shorten things like "Caf" for Cafeteria. "WMD" weapons of mass destruction, etc. I also think the word "princess" is used too much with baby girls. And I am sick of hearing people say that I am "eating for two"

when i first became pregnant my friend constantly called me "mama" and i told her i hated it-and subconciously she would still call me, until other people started calling me "mama" too. Also, my 16 year old brother and his friends always called me "preg" after I had my son they called me "X-Preg" and would hold there arms up and make a cross and then bring it down and make a circle like a pregnant belly.....ugh

I agree with Bumble Bear. I cant stand it when someone(especially someone my age or younger) calls me sweetie. It gets on my nerves and I want to deck em!

God, yes.

Prego.
Preggie.
Preggers.

**** off...

Anything cutesy irks me. "DD" and "DS" (darling/dear daughter/son), never mind "DH."

I'm not a fan of "knocked up," but it does sometimes do okay in the context of a joke. "Bun in the oven" nauseates.

But. Prego, preggers, and preggie all rot. Thanks for pointing it out.
