The only reason is because I 'm trying to sell a $500 best buy gift card and paypal takes almost $15 out of that just on fees plus Ebay takes another $15 for listing and final value.

Would the bid be lower if I only accept personal checks, money orders, western union? Is there a risk if I don't accept paypal?

Yes. A lot of people on eBay use and accept PayPal. I wouldn't bother bidding on it if you don't accept PayPal. A LOT of people will just pass you over. Or you could see if Best Buy is willing to give you cash for it. I'd just use the thing myself. Get a XBOX 360 and some games. Or a new cheap computer... or a new TV... if someone gave me a $500 Best Buy gift card... I'd have it used up in less than an hour.

An MP3 player is also a good choice... get an 8GB iPod Nano and some nice headpones... or a surrsound sound system, I mean, dude, the possibilities are endless.

I also hope that you didn't actually BUY a $500 gift card but if you did, oh well, you may as well use it. If it was a gift... ummmm, use the thing!

did you pay 500 bucks for the card? if not, i wouldn't complain about the cost of paypal. Yes, if you don't accept paypal, it will deter people. Another reason people may not even bid is if you don't provide proof that the card actually has 500 on it. Take it to best buy and get a printout reciept of the balance on the card. Take a picture of the card and receipt together showing the matching serial number on both and make sure the balance is clearly visible on the reciept.

This is a tedious task. I would recommend not to sell it on ebay unless you're going to take 450 or less for it. I would go to your nearest best buy and ask people going into the store if they want to buy the card for 475. You're getting something for nothing and i would even take, but no less than, 400 bucks for it.

I am very familiar with eBay. I like it because it is a good way to find things cheap or things you can't find any where else. I would suggest that it would hurt you because PayPal offers buyers protection if they don't get their product. If they send yo $500.00 and you say you don't get it...that's there problem. If they use PayPal and they don't get it...unless you have confirmed delivery (which I suggest w/ that price range) you will lose the gift card and whatever you sold it for.

Pay Pal protects you and the buyer in case the transaction doesn't go through as it should.
