Was i wrong what should i do?

My friends are mad at me over some crap i said on myspace i said that i did'nt like that fact that she likes that fake manufactured pop music that makes me sick. They way i put it was very blunt. The words i used were "ewww you like a variety of music eww...go listen your paris hiltons fake manufactured pop music"

Then today i was talking about how all these preppy girls are on the honor roll and my grades are crap so i felt stupid for that reason. Then out of no were we go into a conversation about how labeling is wrong an how i shouldn't label people as preppy if I hate being called emo. The thing is i don't care if ppl call me emo its a stupid word it doesn't define me as a person just beacuse someone calls me emo.

So yeah mainly i'm thinking i was worng but i think its dumb that people get worked up over being call preppy, punk, emo, it doesn't define you. So yeah who was right who was wrong if i please tell me im really confused. I think you people will be too.

Yeah, you're wrong. You have no respect for other people.
Let me tell you something. "Respect" doesn't mean treating other people well. It just means being able to accept the priorities and viewpoints of other people and not to trample all over them because you don't agree with them. I'm not saying that you have to nod your head and agree with everything that your friend likes or says, but you have to at least be able to step back and say to yourself "hey, i think that stuff is retarded, but she doesn't, and because she's a friend, i'm going to RESPECT what she thinks".

Example. Like you said, people call you emo all the time. You don't let that label stick to you and define you, and it's cool. I admire that. However, some people haven't come to that realization. They're not as secure as you, and labelling them WILL hurt them. This is where respect comes into play. Whereas you're fine and dandy when people call you emo, you shouldn't assume that other people are, or should be, ok with you labelling them.

That said, I think you are an intelligent and mature individual, and I think you can process what I said without difficulty.

Now a days so many ppl are labelled as Emo or Preppys etc....I don't think you should "talk about ppl" on your "myspace" as you said you labeled some ppl as it can hurt their feelings. Yes it's YOUR SPACE and you should be able to type what you want..but that would be in a Perfect World....so back to a reality check...if you don't want the conflicts then don't be putting ppl down and everyone will be happy* If you don't care.... continue doin what you're doing and you won't be having too many ppl that like you* Sorry* that's just how the world works. I don't really see the connection between the first myspace thing and the second thing. but in the first thing, I'd say you're wrong-- people can get really close to the music they like, and to go out and tell your friends their music taste sucks is pretty mean and disrespectful. (even though you're right about that kind of music...)

and with the second, yeah, it's stupid to fall into a label or define yourself or others by one.

I don't think either you or your friend were "wrong" per se. You each seem to have very strong opinions about who you are and what you like. My opinion on this is that you could probably not have been so degrading of your friend's favorite music, but then again, I can't stand that kind of music either. *shrugs*

Well, If you offended someone...you should appoligize. Even though you may think your right, diffrent things offend diffrent people. (the best way to get rid of your enemys is to make them your friends)
