Im sure that it's only for marketing reasons. I estimate that the real value of this contract is around 25.000.000 but they multiply the value for publicity.

The total contract value can be maximum of 250 million dollars for five years. This includes, endorsement, salaries, commercials, Percentage of ticket sales at the gates.
It's not uncommon that big name sport stars make millions of dollars from endorsement. Look at Tiger Wood, Jordan, ......... The real value of his soccer contract is much smaller. He made $ 11 million dollars from Real Madrad last year.
He didn't make UK national team, and he is a bench player at Real Madrad. (He start 5 games last year). Real Madrad tried to trade him for sometimes without takers.

Anyone who thinks this isnt all about money is deluding themselves.

Beckham has just got himself a very good deal just to sit back and take it easy in the end of his playing career, playing at a level he can manage blindfolded and with both legs tied together. So,he'd be a fool not to take it but its a sad end to a career of underachievement..

That includes endorsement money that he may never get, but it makes a great headline in the newspapers and on TV.
