I am a single mom and my little girl has a big red balloon which she plays with all the time, even when I tell her to go to sleep or be quiet. today, I asked her not to run with it in the house, but she did and consequently, a vase was broken. I dont want to be mean but she is driving me crazy with it. I tried talking to her about it, I even threatened to pop it, but she still goes on. my question is, do you think I should pop it ? if so, do you think I should tell her about it ? pop it when she is not there ? in front of her ? how ? I'm lost...

While she's sleeping deflate the balloon and throw it out. Problem solved (and no more balloons in the house - I hate balloons)

Tell her that her behavior is wrong and what to do to change it, then explain that if she can't behave in tha manor you want you'll have to take away the Balloon. Or if you want to be a little more mean take a sewing pin and prick it at the very base not all the air will go out at once but it will slowly deflate over an hour or so. Or if you think she would go for this one: tell her that you can attach a message to the balloon then let it go and some one in (far away place) will receive the message/ if you believe in a Deity(s) that they will receive it.

Let her KEEP the balloon and give her an appropriate place to play with it where nothing will be broken--if she doesnt want to play with it in the safe place then tell her it will be taken away....
The beauty is balloons only stay inflated for so long...it will be deflated in a few days---problem solved...do not pop it or throw it out in secret--then you have a screaming daughter to deal with....be patient it will soon be flat--in the meantime give her a room or part of the house she can play with it safely.
Remember YOU are the mom--she is the CHILD!! RIGHT???

I think popping it or threatening to is a little torturous for child. If she misbehaves, take it and put it away just like any other toy. How is it that she drives you crazy with it? Whats so annoying about the balloon?

Let her have the balloon and soon it will go down by itself or she will pop it. Since it bothers you so much don't bring any more balloons into the house. Let the child enjoy the balloon just watch her and be careful that she doesn't get chocked on it or anything like that.

Who is the boss ? your daughter. If you told her no running with it in the house and she did any way the baloon should be taken away from her and put where she can not reach for a day or two. Then tell her you will give it back to her if she remembers not to run in the house with it, but if you catch her running with it in the house this time you will pop the baloon.

I think I know who's in charge
You need to reestablish the parent roll in your family
If you threaten to pop and you don't you are setting a standard for when she is older she will not believe you. You are not only teaching her to lie but disrespect you and others.
take the balloon away now,
you can put it away or you can
pop as you threatened
