I have finally ordered my Macbook, but the apple website is rubbish for giving exact details on shipping. At the moment my order says "merge in transit" - I am not sure what this means and how much longer this means it will take - does anyone have any ideas? How long did your mac take to arrive?

That's a good question and it depends on the carrier (FedEx, UPS, DHL...) but if you ordered it today or yesterday, it probably won't actually ship until Monday. I wouldn't worry about it until they issue your tracking number. Once you have the tracking number you will be assigned a delivery date.

If you ordered it during a weekday you should have it in about three days, give or take, and depending on where you live. I once ordered an iPod on a Monday that shipped directly from China and I had it in three days flat with standard shipping (which Apple had upgraded for unknown reasons), and that's from China to Maryland... in three days.

In other words, it shouldn't take more than five days (not including weekends).
