I have the opportunity to go to africa for a month, however I kind of told a friens I would go to new york with her for 5 days( I have already been). I dont want to let my friend down but Africa is to good of an opportunity to miss. How should I tell her if I decide to not tgo to New York. I dont want to ruin my friendship

A true firendship won't be ruined by somethign like this. It's a no-brainer, go to Africa! Any way you can invite her ot go with YOU instead of the New York thing?

if you decide you would rather go to africa, just explain to your friend that you are soory you cant go to new york with her, but didnt want to miss out on the oportunity of africa. tell her you will make it up to her - maybe suggest going somewhere neither of you have been before at another time, and remember, if she is a true friend, she will understand!

Go to Africa--New York is someplace you say you've already seen.If it ruins the friendship,it was not very strong to begin with.Have a good trip!

Defiantly, definitely, definitely go to New York! My God mother who is just turned 33 yesterday just got back from Africa about a month ago and she now is deathly sick from Viral hepatitis from being in Africa.
