Myspace,Purevolume,and other online sites.Contact some local clubs(18 +over clubs or,clubs for the younger ones) book alot of gigs at different clubs.If you do well,they may invite you back again.Myspace and purevolume are online sites that are popular and allow you to upload your music and add other bands and friends.Send your music to your local radio station.Contact a local radio station and see if they hold local band contests,and join them.Write music and songs that others can relate to.

Write lots of good original material for a start. You just have to be at the right place at the right time, really. Battle of the Bands competitions usually help.

Lot of known clubs have an open night where all singers and bands are welcome to show what they can do, it's not easy to get started but try to prevail and don't give up so easy

Well.... you could record a cassette demo and sell that. Or you could create a website for your band. This will attract attention.
