What program did you use to make the backup? Whats the name (last 3 letters, ie. .bak) of the file? Wheres the 4Gb file now? If you formatted the drive, then the file will be gone. Am I assuming you burned the 4Gb file onto a DVD? If so, does this mean you are trying to restore it directly off the DVD (ie, you click Restore and it asks for location of backup, and you choose the DVD drive)?

Some compression programs like WinRar, absolutely goes nuts if you try to open a file directly off a CD/DVD. Because it attempts to create a temporary file on the same drive, which it can't. Maybe its the same issue with you. If so, the only way around that issue is to copy the file from the dvd onto your hard drive. Then attempt to restore that file.

In the future, I wouldn't bother with backup programs, all they do is compress the files (and not that good) into a single file. Sound familiar? It should because Winzip does the exact same thing. With Winzip, you'd have a better chance of recovering stuff from it. In addition to that, Winzip lets you split the file into smaller ones (in case you only had a CD burner, you could split the 4Gb file into multiple 700Mb files).

did you recognize what backup is? Your Dchronic information were dependant on your previous cchronic format. You lost them once you reformatted C. next time backup your information to a disk. Reformat the wholechronic and get rid of D
