ok. so there's this girl at my school. and im friends with her, and i want to help her, but im wondering if she's anorexic.

she:

1. eats apples a lot
2. she doesn't ever seem to eat
3. as long as i've known her, shes been really skinny, but maybe thats just her body type...
4. she was not as skinny when she was little
5. i went on a outdoor ed trip with her, and even though we'd been kayaking all day, she refused to eat some foods at dinner, like burritos and pasta. the meals were pretty gross, but most of us ate them because we didnt care. she just ate marshmellows and granola
6. shes always really cold (no body fat?)

i cant really judge because im her friend and ive never thought of her as having a disorder. what do you guys think?

no, shes not anorexic. anorexics barely eat anything at all, just enough to stay conscious. if this girl will eat marshmallows, then shes definitely not anorexic.

Based on the facts you just listed this doesn't mean she's anorexic. I'm 26 years old and I'm only 90 pounds and I'm 5 feet tall. I have always been thin like this, and I'm perfectly healthy. I just have low body fat. She could just like apples a lot maybe that's why she eats them. Just because she wasn't skinny when she was little means nothing. Also she may have chose not to eat the food on the trip because she didn't like the food in general. I'm always cold no matter what, but the only reason I am is because I'm anemic. There are plenty of people that are always cold, and they don't even have to be skinny. I have tons of big people in my family, and some of them are anemic and stay cold just the way I do so it has nothing to do with her being skinny. Your a good friend to be worried about her, and it shows how much you care. There are tons of thin people out there, and I'm one of them. Not because I choose to be, I'm just naturally this way.

No, it sounds like she just has a food phobia. Like she only likes plain foods etc. Whats the food at her house like? Does she eat at home? If her family, particulary her mum, are thin then she is probably either naturally thin or phobic. Also when people are away from home they might feel uncomforatble about eating in front of other people etc. The body fat thing IS why she's cold but that doesnt make her anorexic. And i would totally inadvise talking to your friends about it, that could quite easily be seen as a betrayal of trust and your thoughts could be taken way out of context. Especially with schoolgirls, i reckon if your still worried speak to your mum and ask her what she thinks as you know you can trust her to not repeat what you say.

I don't think so (for many various reasons)
If you're worried, asking her about it will just cause her to lie to you about it if she really does have an ED
If she "eats apples alot" she's not in any immediate danger
There was this huge scandal in my grade because everyone thought that this one girl was anorexic (she's not), and they told the counselor, who called her parents and made her go to a food therapy thing. She got very pissed at her friends, and never really forgave them for that

Being thin does not necessarily point to anorexia. Check out the links I've included and if you are still concerned, speak to an adult...particularly your parents.

She may also be a vegetarian.

It sounds to me that she is just conscious of her eating habits.
