As a housewife I can honestly say I wish I was more independent.
If something were to happen to my husband I don't know how I would manage. I have five kids but health problems prevent me from driving and working. I wish I could have peace of mind that would come from having my own career and transportation should something bad ever happen.
I think it's also necessary just for the sake of one's sanity. It drives me nuts that I rely on my husband just to get out of the house. I feel like he has complete control and there are so many days I find that I just want to go out somewhere.
Housewives should always try to gain some independence for their self esteem, sanity and peace of mind.

necessary???? umm i guess it depends on the situation.. some housewives become to co-dependent which tends to make some men turned off.. some love that their wives are co-dependent makes them feel needed.. every person should hold a sense of independence and have with in them what it takes to be independent incase the need arises to be.. because if one day the husband splits and she's use to being co-dependent the world will seem like an extremely scarey place.. suddenly having to do everything on ur own by urself or if the husband passes away.. so it really depends on the person and on the relationship between husband and wife..

Sadly, Oh so sadly, IT IS. There are just so many temptations out there for both men and women. My mother told me to always have a little sock full stuck away where no one knew about it. Well the bank was good enough for me but I did need it, independent but not independent of of being a wife.

No but it is sexy. To know she has her own job and is her own woman. Men don't like the clingy vine that wines at you for everything. You want something buy it yourself.
That is better to have a woman that takes charge. Has one or two kids and then stops. When they get in school get a job.
or go to school to get a better education.
Some of these women all they know how to do is have babies.
Every year they plunk out another one for some poor guy to support. Then gripe because there is not enough money.
You want more money? You get out there and earn it.

Absolutely! i think that all women,PERIOD should be independent. have your own. you don't want to spend your life always depending on someone else to get what you need and want done. And also, look at it this way, some marriages dont last forever.if the woman decides she wants to leave she wouldnt be stuck without nothing.even if she gets half of everything she could still have more.Work ,save money,be independent,look out for yourself too

Not necessary but very important for all partners to have some independence in their relationships. It would be a pretty lonely existence not to have some form of independence and interests outside of a marriage.

Women need not depend on their husbands/boyfriends for anything. If a housewife wants to develop a career of her own outside the home, she should be allowed to do so. Everyone, men and women alike, needs a strong sense of self.

its very necessary,though I'm qualified I'm not working right now. but then i take care of my family inside outside as my husband is touring most of the time.i look after my aged parents too along with my kids. its a huge responsibility though i get stressed out sometimes. but end of the day im happy that im managing the show quite well without my husband.

in life we don't know what gong to happen its best that she is independent if something happens to u she needs to take care of her self ur children and her home and she might need to get a job , so its never a good idea to let her depend on u ,u might not always be around ! security for ur peace of mind if u know she can take care of her self

Absolutely. Be your own person, do the things that you like to do. There are many woman today that are housewives, together with being a career woman. You never want to be dependent upon someone else for anything. Remember that you want to be able to WANT someone or something, not NEED them.
