The rash looks similar to eczema (red with some raised bumps).

It is on the backs of both hands (larger on the right one) and is located primarily around the thumb and forefinger. Could this be a rash caused from teething? (he often chomps on this part of his hand, and moreso his right one). I've tried to give him teething rings but he won't take them.

Also he recently started solids, could this be an allergic reaction? So far he has only eaten banana with breastmilk. Could this be the cause?

TIA.

It sounds like eczema from too much moisture from him chomping on his hands. Try a little bit of Hydrocortisone cream. Put it on his hands and cover with mittens as it soaks in (so he doesn't ingest any of the cream). Also, if you notice his hands are soaked from drool, dry them off and try putting some cornstarch baby powder on them to soak up left over moisture. That could help.

If you want to make sure it's not an allergy, hold off on any solids for a week or until the rash clears up. Then try the bananas again, and if the rash pops up right away, then you know it's most likely a food allergy.

Good luck!

If it's a sudden kind of rash, my first guess (I'm no dr. or anything but I work at a daycare) would be "Hand Foot Mouth Disease" My baby just got over it. Also could be thrush. However if this rash is stickin around after a week and a half then you're guess is as good as mine.
