Should Ebay only protect its buyers if they use Paypal? Ebay has made this annoucement that this is the only protection you can get now. Is it a good idea when ebay has not done anything to even boost its members security? Or is this just another market ploy for Ebay to convince members that Paypal is really safer then it is?

Ok take for example anyone can get a paypal account and no verification is needed. whereas merchant account holders like myself have to be verified very strongly to even be allowed to accept credit cards. I have to disagree in the sense that paypal accepts anyone with little to no verification. Whereas merchant account holders are very carefully verified. Sorry but I have a little more faith in a verified person.

It is part of their war with Google Checkout and other payment services that have cropped up in the last few years. No it is not fair but until a legitimate alternative comes we are stuck with eBay.

Well, I think for now it is probably the safest or a credit card. Some of eBay stuff is difficult to determine whom is right or wrong when presented to eBay. We may know we are honest but they do not know us from Adam.

I do think they are doing a good job on spoof. I have not sold anything on eBay in a couple of months and honestly, every day I get a minimum of one to two spoofs wanting me to log on so that they can steel my info. I even had someone break into my eBay account (I am the only person ONLY who new user and password) and place a bunch of things for sale and guess who was charged for that. But eBay is the one who notified me that it had occured and they took care of it immediately.

One other thing however. They, eBay, do a horrific job of keeping counterfeit items off. I have reported many and they just remained for sale. Because of a little expertise I have in a particular area, I saw one poor woman pay more than $2000 for a fake handbag. It was so obvious it was fake and I tried to email her to let her know and she had no email address available.

Sorry I rambled.

The one solution an eBay seller has is to accept verified paypal only.

I would believe the credit card that you use for the purchase has its own buyer protection plan but PayPal is a reasonably priced service that buyers and sellers trust. I certainly wouldn't give my credit card number to a seller that I don't know.

Ebay OWNS PayPal... what do you expect them to do?? Look, the only way this will be fixed is for all of us to stop using Ebay for an extended period of time!!!

What other things do you think they should be liable for? You have normal legal protections as well as any offered vie your credit card if you use it.
