Since we bombed, invaded, and the UN took it over, how has the life been for the typical Serb, Croat, Bosnian?

My son's in-laws are Serbs living in Serbia. I know life is a struggle, especially for young people. To find a job, you must have connections. The government decides what you will study at university (my daughter-in-law was told she had to study engineering, even though she wanted to study photography). Forget having a two-income household. Forget finding a place to live; even married young Serbs frequently have to live with parents. Serbia won't be admitted to the EU for another 20 years; the entire country has to pay for the sins of a few (i.e., Milosevic).
So, life hasn't improved in Serbia. I can't speak for the other republics, though.
