CNN is reporting that they are still investigating this attack, therefore, speculating what prompted it or who is responsible is premature. Read this:

I've been to Greece many times, so I feel I know a thing or two about domestic politics there. Essentially, the "home grown" extremist groups are a mish-mash of mostly young, unemployed, self-proclaimed anarchists (not socialists). They don't really know what they believe in, but consistently single out capitalism (and, by extension, Americans) as their enemy. For the most part, these groups just go around painting graffiti, etc. But every once in a while they get aggressive.....

What have they accomplished? Not much. Even the famous internal terror group, November 17, had very little (if any) tangible political impact in the years it was active. I doubt one of these new groups will succeed in anything either, except maybe putting a damper on tourism for a couple of weeks.
