I like it but you could try spelling it
Mataya Lynn
There are other ways to spell it, but I LIKE IT! Who cares if the name doesn't match with your background! It's your child and as long as the lastname isn't too out of this world and sounds alright with the name then who cares! It's not too common of a name, and I don't see how it can be made fun of! VERY UNIQUE and I give it a THUMBS UP!

I'm not fond of unusual names but it's not bad. If you and your husband like it then you should definitely go for it though. I don't think the backgrounds of names matter to much- it doesn't need to fit with that- it just needs to fit with your daughter!
It definitely goes well with Lynn and I like Matea-Lynn as a joined first name (just to add another idea in) as it flows together really nicely (and then could be shortened to either names).

I had a friend named Matea, she was greek lol. I am not greek however my daughter's name is greek her first name is and her middle name is Mercedes which is Spanish, and I am not hispanic either. I think it is okay to name your child ethinic names it creates more diversity and they can learn about where their name came from when they get older. Like my daughter could study Greece and their Mythology and find out more about her name and the history surronding the first time it was used. same as Mercedes she could learn about spain if she wanted. Name your child with meaning too. I think it's a cool thing. My daughter's name means Ocean's of Grace and Mercy. Oceana means Ocean or from the sea and was also the greek Goddes of the sea and Mercedes means Grace and Mercy or just mercy (it depends on whose translating it) Matea sounds pretty and I don't think it's too ethnic either. I also think Imani is pretty too, it's Swahili for faith. Amalia Imani could mean working faith.... It's all up to you...

I think it's pretty, and who cares if it doesn't fit your background? People are such a mix of nationalities any more, that it doesn't make sense to try to match a name to your background. I do have a bit of advice, though. Don't tell your friends and family the names you are thinking of. For some reason, people seem to think it's o.k. to offer their negative opinions of your choices, before the baby is born. Once you give the child a name, they keep their mouths shut! If both you and your husband like a name, it's fairly easy to spell and pronounce, and not shockingly weird, then do what you want. Good luck!

It's a little bit too italian cowgirl to me. I really like the name Nessa Lynn or Vanessa Lynn. I was suprised to find out that Nessa was a Jewish name, and I think Vanessa and Nessa are nicer than Matea (no offense.).

If you like it, go for it. And honestly (this is the first thing I think of, as one of the rejects of my school), there's not a lot of mangling you can do to it. She'll be called Matt or Mattie, but there are worse things. It's actually a very pretty name.
And so what if it sounds hispanic, or it doesn't fit your background? It's your child. You can name her whatever you want. And if you both like it, then go for it.
