How accurate are lie detector tests?

I recently found my boyfriend smoking with a girl who lives in our apartment in the boiler room. He did not awnser his phone when he was down there and her phone number was in his car and she would wait around in parts of the building specifically to meet him. SO I was very upset about it all and ordered a lie detector test that asked him if hed slept with anyone in the last four months. He passed with flying colors...so he hasnt slept with anyone how accurate is that...or what are his intentions with her..he still sees her and I want to bust him ( i have moved out temporarily due to these trust issues) what is your advice?

I think that you need to step away from this relationshp for its draining ! You need to be with someone whom you can trust and not someone who will blatantly do something even though they know its hurts you or upsets you .. He has no respect for your feelings and even though he passed the test , dont stick around waiting for him to fail it ..

Theyre about 95% accurate but still the results of one are not allowed as evidence in a court of law. These tests can be beat. Law Enforcement use them in investigations purposes only anymore as a way of weeding out suspects. Some of the lies caught on a polygraph test can be used to catch the testee on other lies and usually lead to a confession. The person giving the test usually are good enough to observe other telltale signs that the testee is lying. Chances are your bf is telling the truth that nothing sexually has happened but the test wont tell you what could happen in the future. Without knowing him personally I cant tell you to trust him or not, so the decision is yours. Hope I helped a little. Good luck

I don't know how accurate a lie detector test that you were able to order and use yourself would be, but either way, you don't trust the guy and even if he didn't sleep around YET, it doesn't mean that he never will. Do you really want to be watching his every move for the rest of your life? My advice is to let him go.

I'm not sure but I hear that the lie dectors are 99% accurate. Even if he hasn't slept around behind your back. You shouldn't be a with a guy you can't trust. Especially one that goes down to the boiler room to hit his bad habit and he won't even tell you. He's not very honest. You need to dumb him and move on.

They can be accurate but they can be faked. I was tested by 2 experts for a job with the police department but they said that they couldn't tell if I was lieing about my own name. Maybe it was 30 years of martial arts and intense physical control, but they sent me packing.

So he said he didn't "sleep" with her. If they had sex then of course they weren't sleeping together (they were doing something besides sleeping) and of course he passed with flying colors because technically he wasn't lying.

There's a reason lie detector tests are not admitted into court..

Lie detecor tests are pretty accurate. Unless he is a marine or something, i think that they might have training in that sort of thing. (my sister has dated several, she lives in hawaii next to pearl harbour, and she told me, who knows...) Try not to be too nosy, because that drives men nuts, but if you have real reason to be suspicious of him, you will have to make up your mind on whether you can stay in a relationship with himor not.
