like for example many parents tell their kids never to drink and drive...but they dont listen and learned the hard way....

My whole life.
Every lesson I learned, since I never listened to what people told me, but it worked because now I naturally stay away from things that have hurt me in the past. If I listened to their suggestions then I would blindly follow it without knowing why.

my parents tried to teach me to grow up, I had to do it the hard way, but I did not like some who just never do

That is exactly what I did, I was made to join some swimming classes, tried and gave up, refused to go for them anymore, later just saw others swim and gave it a shot and figured swimming on my own =)
