Generally a couple means two and a few means more than two and less than several. Because of the alliteration, I like to think of a few as going up to five and several as starting at six (or even better, seven).

notice it says couple, couple is also used in a relationship, like people. some people could be a couple. and usually their only two people. the person and their partner. but a few means three, because it's more than two and i can't be one because one would be called single

I like Gene's answer. My thoughts are similar:
- "couple" means 2
- "some" means 3
- "few" means 5
- "several" means 7
I got that from a primer.....groooooaaaaannnnn.....

"a couple of" is 2 but "a few of" is 3-4
the use of each depends on the item you're talking about and how many of that item is taken.
