Your nose and sinus may also be draining down the back of your throat making it sore. Medicated cough drops should help your sore throat, however, taking an antihistamine would stop the discharge (by drying it up) from going down the back of your throat. Just remember to drink lots of water when you take antihistamines.

You are suffering from common cold. Try inhalation.
Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection . Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience.

It sounds like strep. Especially if it sore even when you are not swallowing. You should go to the doctor for a strep test. If you don't get it treated it will go away by itself. But it could also become dormant in you heart and give you an infection later. So get to the doctor.

Your runny nose might have to run it's course. Try gargling with warm water and salt. It does help. Also, try a spoonful of honey. That will usually help too. Feel better.

When my throat was really sore, plain old aspirin and a sore throat spray gave me the best results.
