It is a great place to go if you like buzzing life. I like the La Rumba street where it is full of lives there. I would definitely return.

I feel that it is about time that the thieving was put straight.
The police do little because it is felt to be racist to aprehend gypsies for doing what gypsies do.
Most tourists cannot be bothered to report theft.
The thefts are not violent.
One thief had over 500 thefts taken into account! All thefts were limited to an amount deemed immaterial.
Barcelona is a magnet for tourists; thus it is a magnet for thiefs.
Most important. 'If they were not sheep; they would not be shorn!'
Do not dress like a tourist.
Barcelona town council has let petty theft get completely out of control. Why? nobody knows or can understand why.
If you steer clear of the alleyways and tourist attractions in the old part of town, you will never even see a thief. Amazingly, the worst place for theft is near the Picasso museum and Sta Maria del Mar. Why the area is not flooded with police, I don't know.
Many locals feel that most politicians are thieves so they are members of the thieves' union. Thus no action is taken against .......................etc. etc.
Watch out for the flower sellers dressed as gypsies. They ARE all thieves.
I would be grateful if someone local would be good enough to explain why no action is taken against the thieves who prey on tourists. Far too many people leave BCN with a nasty taste in their mouths.
Regarding the question, I love the place, the seedy character of the old town, the great bars and restaurants, the good value, the lack of tourist rip-offs, the unique catalan atmosphere, the friendly people etc. and the fact that the city is safe.
I am returning with a gang of friends for Easter. Can't wait.

Yes I have! I liked seeing the buildings of Antonio Gaudi (the famous artist). There are some funky shops, some Irish bars and the square is a lovely place to sit and people watch. I prob wouldn't go there again though but thats just because I want to see other places. Barcelona is well worth a vist though, for about a four day holiday :)

the thing I liked the most was that the city is easy to get around.
We went on the Bus Turistic hop on hop off bus that took us around the city over 2 days on 3 different routes. This way you can see the city and get off at the places you want to visit.
Best sites: Sagrada Familia. Park Guell, The Neu Camp (Football Stadium), Bari Gotic.
We also did a day trip up to the monserrat Monestry which was cool. Saw the Black Madonna and the choir singing.
My cousin and I want to go back in 30 years to see if the Sagrada Familia is actually finished!!

Barcelona great place - it now has every leisure and sports facility possible since 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. The streets of Barcelona are alive by day or night, providing the visitor with a safe place for strolling around, whether for shopping, eating or simply passing the time of day. I really liked it when I was there, enjoyed the Ramblas, loved the food. I guess I would have to say I just totally love Spain. I would live there in a heartbeat if I could. Both of my parents were born there. People in europe just know how to have a good time. I would probably say the best place I visited was Sevilla, I dig the flamenco dancing.

It's a beautiful city.
It's cultural, and it has a world famous art gallery. Fantastic architecture too.
The nightlife is amazing, it's a hotspot for skateboarders too.
Oh, and it's on the beach, so there's something for the family too.
They made Barcelona a showcase for Europe in preparation for the '92 olympics. It's absolutely beautiful.
Hope this helps.

Yes. Went just before the Olympics in 1992. Visiting the Nou Camp was the best bit. Would only go back if my footie team was playing there though which is unlikely.

I come from Barcelona.
I think that's a good city to live and is a nice and a cool place to visit.
It´s true that thieves is a big problem but that's up to you. if you be careful with your own things,no problem! In general is a safe city.
Remember one thing: catalan is the official language and most of people are very proud to be catalan. Forget the spanish
stereotypes!
