the actual piercing is free, but you pay for the earrings and the solutions to prevent infection. the cost depends on which earrings you get. it's not very much.

It all depends on what earring you want to get it pierced with. You could get birthstones, gold, sterling silver, white gold, titanium, and rhinestone/cubic zirconium. They all come in different sizes. The cheapest is a small gold stud, and it's $13. And, there's different sizes of antiseptic (what you clean the hole with). You can either get 2 (two) 4oz bottles or 1 16 oz. The 16 ounce one is $16 if you get the gold earrings. I would reccomend getting the fgold ones too, because the piercer said that titanium and sterling silve aren't good for your ears, and I got white gold and now the color's starting to fade. You also don't need 16oz. My 2 sisters and I shared the 16 oz bottle, we clean our every week still, and we have like half left. We now have 2 huge extra bottles. Finally, don't get your ears pierced when it's crowded because the claire's people rush, and don't do it as well. I went before my sisters and these 2 other kids and my ears turned out perfect, But, my ssters got their ears pierced at a slight diagonal, since the lady was trying to hurry up. good luck :)

The piercing is free, it's the earrings you buy that cost money. You choose a pair of earrings & they will show you or tell you the price for each. Don't worry too much about buying nice ones since you're going to take them out in 8 weeks anyways.

Please get your ears pierced at a professional piercing shop, not at Claire's or a hair salon!

Think about it -- you're letting a young, inexperienced employee who has had zero training in human physiology stick a chunk of metal through your ear which has nerves and blood vessels. Then for aftercare they will tell you to turn the earring (ripping open the scab/scar tissue) and smear rubbing alcohol on it -- a piercing is an open wound; would you care for any other open wound (eg a cut) by ripping it open and putting rubbing alcohol (which dries out the wound and kills the healing flesh) on it?

And they use piercing guns, which any professional piercer will tell you are the worst thing you can get pierced with. A piercing gun *cannot* be sterilized, for one thing -- wiping it down with rubbing alcohol or peroxide does not kill the major viruses (eg hepatitis, staph, HIV) -- an autoclave (heat-sterlizing machine used by professional piercers/tattoo artists) will kill these viruses with extreme heat, but piercing guns are made of plastic and would just melt.

The cheap metal earrings used by Claire's et cetera are garbage metal alloy which most people react badly to -- new piercings are open wounds and should only have good-quality pure metal in them, eg titanium, implant-grade steel, or at very least a very good quality stainless steel. As well, a professional piercer will use a very sharp needle to pierce you then put the jewelery in right away -- those cheap earrings from Claire's et cetera aren't even sharp (they have round ends, not points), and that's what they use to pierce you with -- they just jam the earrings through your skin!

Being pierced with a piercing gun feels like getting kicked in the head -- the side of your head and especially the ear throbs in pain for hours afterwards. This is because the earring used to pierce your ear is dull and rips the skin open like cloth rather than poking a hole in it, plus the piercer does not know anything about physiology and thus will probably hit a nerve or blood vessel. The piercing will take a long time to heal -- up to six months before you can change the earring -- and will probably get infected repeatedly due to the dirty gun used to pierce the ear, the shape of the earring which traps germs and dirt, and the use of irritating cleansers and turning the earring to 'help it heal'. How many people do you know that have had their ears pierced with piercing guns and have *not* had troubles with the healing, infections, etc etc? Probably very very few.

A piercing done with a needle by someone who knows what they are doing (ie a professional piercer) will hurt like a bee sting or bad paper cut, but as soon as it's done it it doesn't hurt anymore (unless, of course, you bump it!). Just 'zing' and the pain is over. Healing is easy and quick and doesn't involve infections unless you contaminate the piercing by playing with it with dirty hands.

Getting pierced at a 'real' piercing shop: $10-$100 depending on the location and jewellery
Getting a piercing that heals in a few weeks and is relatively painless and doesn't expose you to all sorts of diseases: priceless

nothing but your parents have to sign forms if your under 18 and you have to pay like 30 dollars for the bottle of ear antiseptic that you put on your ear with a cotton ball every night and day but they'll tell you about it. good luck and i hope you are happy with you newly pierced ears. how old are you anyway because i'm 11 and i got my 2nd hole in june for my 5th grade graduation. anyway, congrats!
