The main point is that they must have been the primary subject of multiple non-trivial published independent works.

Really only famous enough to have a Wikipedia user want to write an article about them. Wikipedia doesn't automatically create a page someone becomes adequately famous, someone has to write it.

They don't need to be known around the world--it just takes one great article/book/painting/drawing/debut acting/song/invention, etc. to make them worthy.

probably have to have been in a major news story or have had a major discovery. it's sort of random. i found some of my (old time) professors on there but not others, for example.
