Yeah....even though I live here one of the first things I think of that is negative about Houston is the weather and traffic. Sure, some of the effects of Katrina weren't great, but I think I am mildly impacted by it compared to some. And whether Houston is in the news or not is no big deal to me, I keep up with Houston news bc I live here and I read up on other places as well so I can be better in touch with current events. If you ever travel and watch the local news there, you will see that Houston is not featured if even mentioned. You need to get out more or surround yourself with people who are not so focused on the Katrina thing.

KATRINA did not do anything for HOUSTON. That in itself is a big negative. Why would it make me feel better knowing Houston was in the News. I say NO to your question.

People seem to concentrate on negative aspects, in anything.they talk about. It seems to be human nature. Houston got alot of the evacuees, which caused alot of negative rap. Houston stayed in the limelight frequently. I mean, we could talk about negative things all day, like the humidity, or the metro rail systems which causes a lot of accidents because we can't remember which streets it dominates. We could talk about poverty, areas of downtown that are dirty and crime-ridden, how bad the Astros are, etc. But every city has negative aspects of it. Instead of the negativity of Katrina, we should be talking about how great Houston did by offering there city to the people who fled Katrina, and all the great way Houston pulled together to try and make it better for those poor people.

Probably because so many of the Katrina evacuees went to Houston. Also it was in the Houston Astrodome where Barbara Bush (the mother of George W, Bush) made her insensitive comments referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated to the Houston.
"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."
Sorry to tell you this but the Bush family has made the reputation of Texas and Houston worse in the eyes of many.

When I think of something negative of Houston I really only think of Sam Houston and how a Virginian, a man that married then left his Cherokee wife and taught in Tennessee was able to have a city in Texas names after him. Well, Katriana and Tiana had a feud and she just wouldn't leave the log cabin, and Houston went to Texas.
