Playing backgammon what does playing 128 really mean?

Does it make a difference on who starts the 128? And do you get extra points?....Really clueless here!!! Thanks for the help so I don't feel like a fool when I play...lol..............Paula

Hi, Paula. 128 is the all amount of pips you need to bring all your men to baering-off area and take them off, but this eventually changes if you opponent hit a man. So, when you got both dices throw till 128 is shown, these point are quite enough to you take off all the man. Maybe you get such points in 17 rolls or so.
