I think if a woman was thought pregnant they took her blood and injected a rabbit with it. If the rabbit died, she was pregnant. If not, she wasn't. At least I think that's how I remember hearing that.

Before they had more modern pregnancy tests, they used a part of the rabbit to do a rudamentory test. The rabbit would end up dying.
