I personally know alot of parents that have kids on medications . The one thing they all have in common is they dont REALLY pay attention to these kids . Its like they "listen" by just go " yeah, thats wonderful.." but NOT REALLY paying attention to their kids . It's like the parents there in the same room , but their mind is elsewhere. Then they wonder why the kids act that way . In my opinion , Attention Deficeit Disorders or actually , LACK OF ATTENTION disorders. What do you think?

I've known lots of kids on medication. (and a few adults) Just by my opinion, about half of them could do as well without meds. It does appear to be hereditary sometimes.

I was at first very sceptical about all of this, but my daughter has been digonaosed with ADHD, Let me explain to you her when not on her medication. She talks faster than she can even understand, her speach is slured, she gets confused in the middle of a sentence, and stutters because her brain wants her to speak as fast as her brain is going. She does NOT have to ability to stop moving, she has to be in constince contact with someone, and she is un able to process what is being told to her. Now let me explain the difference when she is on her medication. She can focouse more and she is able to speak in complete sentences, and is able to understand the work givin to her, since being on her medication, she has caught up with all of her school work, and is even now in a gifted class room, because she is in the 3rd grade doing begining 5th grade work. Her memory compare to that of a Jounir in Highschooler. (ie. telling a story back to someone almost perfectly a day later) its call recall memory. Now when being tested she test far better, and alot higher than a normal 3rd grade. Now she has had this ability to do this her whole life, but she was just never able to speak of to write it because her brain was running so fast she was unable to keep up with herself. So in my case the medication has worked really well.

Now i must say that i do see some children diagonosed that clearly shouldnt be, and with some children the parents think that the medicane is an answer to all. But it is not, not for those who really need it. It is still the parents job to teach the children right from wrong, it is still the responseabilty to teach the children. It is an on going process. My daughter sees many doctors from a regular doctor ot phyciatrist, to a nutritionist. In my daughters case the only think the meds do is help her brain to slow down a bit and process what is being told to her.
My daughter is still very energitic, and is still very talkative, and outgoing, but no longer to a point to where she can not foction. I believe that if a child is properly disgnosed then i believe it is a big help. The process is a big process to go through, and the children can not be properly diagnosed with just one doctor, it takes the work of many as well as the schools envolvement. I believe is everyone is turely doing all that can be done then, the child will then be able to get the most out of the meds he or she is takeing.
But i aslo agree that a lot of parents think this is a mircil drug that when given to the childern thats all there is, that the child should be ablie to funtion and learn properly. Which is not correct. I could go into so much more detail, but i will not right now. If you would like i can answer any questions you might have email me mygirl269@yahoo.com
Thank you

I think there's still a whole lot of stuff we don't know about certain medication yet, I hope these parents got a second opinion, There is nothing wrong with a kid being hyper there kids let them be kids, put them into some kind of sports or some thing, There was nothing like this way back when, you wore you kids out by playing or chores. It seems a easy way out some times....And those who truly need it then of coarse use it, but have caution.

I personally know of someone that has 2 kids and has pushed the issue so much till the doctors had given her medication for her children and then she now gets a check for her children because they have "ADD or ADHD". And it burns me when i hear her tell her kids go get your medication and she dont even gives it to them...they take it and she dont know if they are doing it right. Some people should never be parents, but they saw it as a way of getting money...I told my husband would love to report her, but he says better not get involve...so i disconnect from her.☺

It seems like every time a kid acts like a brat it's classified as ADD or ADHD. When I was in school, no one was on any kind of medication, most of the kids just got an old fashined @ss beating when they acted up.

The medication just seems like it's a quick fix to a more serious problem. I do agree with you that a lot of people don't really seem to pay attention to their kids. Sometimes kids just act up to get attention, even if it's negative attention.

I think it's BS...some kids take multiple medications for their "problems" I mean some parents would rather just dope up their kids because the "doctor" said it was the best thing to do...and we wonder why they act dumb and shoot up our schools..

No...I don't believe in it. I say take them outside and let them run it off. I was a hyper child and back then we didn't have ADD and all that stuff. When my kids went thur that stage I just stayed outside with them and we stayed busy. They grew out of it.

i completley agree. i was thinking about something the other day that kind of relates. We now have all these mental and physical diseases that no one had 60 years ago, and its like everytime a kid acts up, its not because they need parenting its because theres something wrong with them and they force pills down their throat. people need to try to get to the root problem, not just OK Johnny drink this!
