A friend of mine said that they were going to get google desktop, but then they read that it makes copies of everything on your computer. that's creepy.
So my question is does Yahoo Widgets do that as well?
Thanks!

To keep it short : Yahoo Widgets does not do that.

Now the long answer on Google Desktop:

Google Desktop caches all your files/programs -- even deleted files so you can access them...because it needs to search inside some files as well (a keyword in a Word document, for example...

It all stores this index on one central, unencrypted location, too. This is viewed by many experts as a security risk [a hacker only needs to access this index instead of accessing all your files to get information]

As always, keep a good antivirus, anti-spyware, and a firewall running to minimize this security risk.

If you want, you can opt out of some of the settings (say, you don't want to keep copies of deleted files, or want to exempt a certain file or file format from search)...

btw: I have Google Desktop and I love the functionality because you can search your computer with literally lightining-fast speed for any files (documents, music, movies) from the Google Home Page.

and the Ctrl + Ctrl shortcut is awesome.

Hope that helps.
