Your question restores my faith in humanity. Thank you.
Just think, with the $1.75 trillion we've spent on killing people &
destroying a country, we might have used money like that
to end poverty or discover a cure for diabetes or cancer.
I really don't understand why so many just don't get it, either.

Oh to be young and idealistic again! Seriously, I so do agree with you and wonder why people don't get along. But the main thing is that the greater majority of people are good. Many many people are supportive of your causes and work hard to achieve positive accomplishments.
As for our leadership: I am afraid that I have become quite dismayed by how our so called leaders lead. They seem to have forgotten they are there to "serve" the people. Too many big egos looking to push through their own agendas.
I have great faith that young people like you will work together to make the world a better place. Don't get so discouraged about the "stubbornness" of people's views-listen to them and learn. Take the good and eliminate the bad. In other words, get involved and say involved.

Throughout much of human history, absolute monarchy was the rule everywhere. People were beheaded for crimes like laughing at the king. People were burned at the stake, pulled to pieces by horses, and tortured to death in unimaginably cruel ways. This happened simply because they did not believe as others did, religiously or politically.
Now, in many nations of the world, especially in America, Europe, Australia, and other nations that have had the benefit of Western influence like Japan as a result of World War II, there is no such thing as absolute monarchy or dicatorship.
There are still nations where unimaginable cruelty occurs. Many of these are Arab and Islamic nations, where beheadings and hangings are still routine -- and that's when they're not torturing people to death.
But overall, humanity is improving.

I believe the extent of the bad things we do like wars, pollution and unbalanced consumption of natural resources will some how be balanced by nature. But it is positive to ask questions like this, to educate the young and to be always ready to help. We have to learn to help the weak and unfortunate, respect the ones that have different beliefs, and take care of nature. We really have to open or eyes and look at what is important in life. I believe that just asking a question like you did helps, but we can also act in many ways.

I absolutely agree with you. Especially Americans who comprise 1/4 of the world's population and use up 3/4 of the world's resources. We are greedy and selfish and sometimes just plain mean and nasty, as though he had some kind of entitlement. Nobody needs 200 pair of shoes or more than one car. If we just thought about what we are doing and shared some of our wealth, the world would be a better place. Of course the Christian right will call me a bleeding-heart liberal but they are suppose to be Christian and their attitude and actions are opposite from the principals they claim to support. Check this out, "In as much as you have done unto the least of thy brotheren, you have done unto me."

I agree. The energy crisis for example, we fight over oil for the fuel we need but in fact, if we used the money we spent on the military for research and worked together we could probably produce a clean and renewable source of energy.

People are inherently evil. We are just doing what comes natural to us. If you don't believe in Original Sin, is this a world God would create? And if you're an anti-theist, what is the point of this putrid existence. If we were really evolved, wouldn't we put ourselves out of our misery?

that's a big issue, "a big chunk of people". Too many for this planet, and without some sort of control over birthrates, there will be no room.

unfortunately it is human nature to be greedy and judgemental and selfish. there is good out there and as long as there are people who believe in the goodness that does exist there is hope for the human race. we need to treat others as we want to be treated.
