you will get .44 a mile. If you drive lets say a Honda like me, you will only get .40 a mile. I told my boss it was discrimination but he says he will only pay a higher rate if you drive a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy. I told Him that Ford owned Honda but it still did not matter.

Help!!

Just because someone decided to buy a less fuel efficient car doesn't mean that they should get more than you! You are still putting wear and tear on your tranny and engine. It is SO unfair to not give equal compensation! Do they also take into consideration the year? Because I am sure that some newer cars get better MPG... and if they are doing this by type of car, are they also doing it by type of driving? For example, cars get different MPG for city and highway, so are they taking the into consideration? What type of car is irrelevant.

It sounds as though he resents the fact that you bought a foreign car and that this a way of getting back at you for buying a rice burner.

You might want to look up mileage figures on the American cars and see if any get better gas mileage than yours. If any do, your boss hasn't a leg to stand on.

Besides, he is renting the use of your vehicle. So it's not up to him to set the rates. It's up to you! When a customer rents a car from a rental agency, the rental agency sets the price - because they are providing the service as the seller.

It appears that your boss is not only a deadbeat, but he is also conducting business backwards!

Tell him that since it's your car you will set the mileage rate - at . 75 per mile. Unfortunately, he will not retain your services if you do. In our world it has always been that the buyer and seller must mutually agree on the price of an item or service. If one or the other doesn't agree, they are entitled to take a walk before entering into the deal.

If you knew what he was prepared to pay, and you didn't like it, you should have walked.

Well, first off, Ford does NOT own Honda. Ford does have a significant ownership of Mazda.

Unless you have an explicit employment contract, employment is considered "at will" meaning that the relationship can be terminated at any time by either party. Other terms of employment are up to the parties as well as long as the laws on discrimination aren't violated -- and there's no law against discriminating based on the brand of car you drive.

It's not all that unusual for companies to restrict use or ownership of certain brands. If you work at Ford and drive a Chevy you WILL park you car a LONG distance from the front door. And if you work for Coke and are caught drinking a Pepsi you'll probably be fired.

Is what your boss doing unfair? Sure. Is it illegal? Probably not.

Just ask him why he prefers a Mexican made Ford over an American made Honda. Good luck trying to get him to change his mind.

First of all Ford doesnt own Honda. And the reason is probably because hondas are more fuel efficient. But there are Fords with god gas mileage, like the ford escape hybryd. probably best if you talk to him, but its not illegal its his perrogative.

I would find another job or go find a good lawyer...there is defeintly discrinmination going on...does he not realize that Honda is creating more jobs in the US while GM and Ford are laying people off...Also many "US" car companies assemble their cars and trucks in Mexico and canada, while "foreign" cars provide jobs and keep opeing new plants in the US...especially the south. Tell him he is an ignorant bigot who needs to open his eyes...

I remember years ago, there was a story about an employer who had a nice, paved parking lot for employees who drove American-built cars, and a gravel lot for imports.

It went to court and the employer won.

Don't know if it's legal or not but I have heard of requirements like that. I had a freind who worked in a grocery store and she wasn't supposed to go to another grocery store to shop. They said it looked bad for business if their employees were seen shopping at a compeditors store.

Sure. It is his business. The federal government does it to the states all the time by threatening tax dollars or giving more tax dollars if the state complies with their wishes.
