1. Open bank account.
2. Open Brokerage account.
3. Transfer money from bank account to brokerage account.
4. Place an order with the broker to purchase stock.
5. Find stock that pays good dividend to increase gain.
6. Continue to buy stocks and you will have a stock portfolio composed of stocks that you have purchased.

You like to play a big risky game, do you? In that case you probably want to buy stock options rather than stocks. Very risky but can be subject to big gains. But 75% of options loose money. The other 25% can easily double your investment.

When you talk portfolio, you are talking buying a variety of stocks to reduce your specific risk and increase your chance of making a profit. The larger the portfolio, the less the specific risk and also the less of the probability of a really big gain.

Unless you have a significant amount of money to invest, amassing a portfolio is going to be beyond your resources except through purchasing a mutual fund or an index fund. Those are excellent alternatives for amassing a portfolio. There will not be a great deal of a chance of playing the big risky game but there will be a good chance of making a decent return will only modest risk.
